MASSIVE CRIME SURVEY UNDERWAY12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 22nd Aug 2006
A survey of local people's experiences of crime is being run by Derby Liberal Democrats. The survey has already been distributed to tens of thousands of people across the city and organizers expect to deliver it to tens of thousands more. Cllr Hilary Jones leader of Derby Lib Dem Councillors and one of the main organizers of the survey, said "As Councillors many of the most common complaints we get from local people are about crime. Many people's quality of life is particularly harmed by what is often considered low-level disorder, such as vandalism and graffiti. "Derby Liberal Democrats are delivering this survey to give people a chance to tell us about their experiences of crime. We have already delivered more than 35,000 surveys, but we are intending to print and deliver tens of thousands more. "The response so far has been really encouraging. We have already had 2,000 surveys returned, and every day we are getting a lot more back in the post. "Looking through some of the early survey responses it is clear that issues to do with crime and policing are a major concern to local people. "It is essential that local people's views on crime and policing are heard. That is why Derby Liberal Democrats are carrying out this survey and I hope as many people as possible will send us their surveys back. "When we have finished getting the surveys back I and my colleagues will be analysing the results of the survey and we will publish the results. In the meantime we are following up a number of concerns people have told us about."
