LIB DEMS SET OUT GREEN TAX SWITCH STALL FOR DERBY RESIDENTS6.30.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 20th Oct 2006
Liberal Democrats in Derby will be out on the streets between Monday and Saturday next week as part of the national Lib Dem Green Tax Switch campaign. The campaign aims to shift taxes to help stop climate change. First stop for the week long calendar of stalls is Mackworth shops on Prince Charles Avenue on Monday. Liberal Democrat campaigner for Mackworth and Morley Simon Lysaczenko said "Liberal Democrats want to fundamentally change the way Britain is taxed. We need to switch to green taxes to switch off climate chaos. "Governments currently tax good things, like work. We need to switch to taxing bad things instead- like pollution and carbon emissions. "Green taxes can change our behaviour and safeguard our planet for our children and their children. This is about using taxes in a new way to change behaviour, not to raise money for the government. "We will cut income tax by 2%, that's £1,000 a year for the average family. Taxes would then be switched onto activities which harm the environment".
