Battle to save Swimming Pool reaches Council chamber4.00.00pm GMT Sun 12th Nov 2006
Derby's Liberal Democrat Group are putting a motion to the Full Council meeting on 22nd November calling for a local swimming pool to be replaced. The swimming pool at Gayton Community Junior School is to be closed by Derby City Council by July next year. Councillor Ruth Skelton who is proposing the motion said "Gayton Swimming pool is a really important local sports facility. The pool is used by many local schools to teach children to swim. Many other local people also use the pool. "I hope that by putting this motion forward we can persuade the Council that there is a need to find the money to replace the swimming pool at Gayton School. "The Council's ruling Labour/Conservative alliance has just closed Lancaster Sports Centre we don't want to lose another important local sporting facility."
