The Liberal Democrats are campaigning to save St Helen's House one of Derby's few Grade 1 listed buildings.

Derby Liberal Democrats have condemned the Council's Cabinet for failing to disclose information on the future of St Helen's House. The House, one of Derby's few Grade 1 listed buildings is being sold off by the council. This is despite huge opposition from local residents and Liberal Democrat councillors.

The future of the House is to be discussed at tomorrow's Derby City Council Cabinet meeting. However, no information has been supplied to councillors yet about the details of the decision the Cabinet is likely to be taking.

Councillor Les Allen said "The ruling Labour/Conservative alliance is probably going to sell off one of Derby's finest buildings. The matter is to be discussed at their Cabinet meeting tomorrow. But they haven't given any information to councillors about the nature of this discussion.

"Labour claim they believe in open government. But here in Derby we have a Labour/Tory alliance which seems reluctant to give people advance information on a really important subject. The Cabinet papers we have received seem to have censored out any information about what Cabinet is going to be discussing about St Helen's House."
