Mass rally in Derby

Derby hosted one of its biggest political rallies ever yesterday. An estimated 500 people came to a campaign rally at the Pakistan Community Centre.

The rally was held to promote the campaign of Arboretum ward Liberal Democrat campaigners Councillor Rehmat Khan and Masud Akhtar. The rally also welcomed the former Labour members who joined Derby Lib Dems in August.

Masud Akhtar Lib Dem representative for Arboretum said "This rally shows there is a huge move to the Liberal Democrats in Derby. People are fed up with a Labour/Conservative alliance that is costing local people more but delivering them less.

"Support is increasing for the Liberal Democrats because they are active in the community and are presenting a credible alternative for people fed up with the Labour/Conservative alliance".
