The Liberal Democrats are Derby's only alternative to the Labour/Conservative alliance

Speaking at an enthusiastic meeting of Lib Dem supporters in Derby Paul Holmes MP, Chairman of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party, said:

"Chesterfield now has a Liberal Democrat MP and a Liberal Democrat run Council. To achieve that took many years of hard work. I am sure that the hard work of Lib Dems in Derby will be similarly rewarded.

"Already you have made real progress. The Lib Dems are the main opposition on the council in Derby and there is a real chance of electing a Lib Dem MP in Derby North at the next election.

"It is clear that people in Derby are fed up with a New Labour government that promised so much but has delivered so little. Local residents are also angry at the Labour/Tory alliance that runs the council. Almost every week another service in Derby seems to be cut by this unholy alliance.

"But people in Derby can be reassured that there is an alternative, the Liberal Democrats. We are already making things better in Chesterfield and, given the chance, we can make things better in Derby too".
