Liberal Democrats launch poster blitz to save swimming pool6.30.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 5th Sep 2007
Local Liberal Democrats are delivering thousands of posters in a bid to persuade the council to drop its plans to close a local Swimming Pool. Blagreaves Liberal Democrat campaigners, Joe Naitta and Cllrs Ruth Skelton and Bob Troup are delivering "Save Gayton Pool" posters to every one of nearly 6,000 houses in the Blagreaves ward. The Labour led Council wants to demolish Gayton School Swimming Pool and Lib Dem campaigners hope that a big display of posters can persuade the Council to change its mind. Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Joe Naitta said "We hope local people will put these posters up to ensure a big show of support for the pool. Up to now local people have tried almost everything to get Labour bosses to change their minds. "Local people have demonstrated against the closure, letters have been written, petitions collected, questions asked and motions put down at Council meetings, yet still Labour bosses on the council will not change their minds. "We hope that a big display of posters will finally force Labour Council bosses to realise that closing Gayton Pool is a big mistake."
