Many Conservatives in Derby like Frank Harwood are switching to the Lib Dems as the only alternative to Labour

A former leading Conservative has switched to Derby Liberal Democrats.

Frank Harwood, former Chairman of Derby North Conservatives, has joined the Liberal Democrats because he believes they are the real alternative to Labour in Derby.

Mr Harwood said "I have decided to join the Liberal Democrats because I believe they can offer the people of Derby a better alternative.

"I have been impressed by local Liberal Democrat campaigns. Like those to save Derby's Post offices and the Gayton School swimming pool.

"I have been an active Conservative member for a number of years but I have reached the conclusion that the Conservatives can no longer provide the people of Derby with an effective alternative to Labour.

"Not only are the Conservatives the third party on Derby Council but they have formed an alliance with Labour which has let down many former Conservative supporters like myself."

Liberal Democrat campaigner for Derby North Cllr Lucy Care said "Frank will be a big asset for the Liberal Democrats. He brings a wealth of experience to our party and a record of campaigning on issues.

"Frank's decision to join the Liberal Democrats shows that the Liberal Democrats are now the only effective opposition to Labour in Derby".
