Liberal Democrats in Derby South have selected David Batey to be their candidate for the next general election.

David Batey lives in Derby, works in the city at Rolls-Royce and is an experienced local campaigner and member of Derby City Council.

Cllr Batey said "I am delighted to be given the chance to fight for people in Derby South. We need a local MP who will fight for our local hospitals and schools and campaign for more police to be put onto local streets.

"People in Derby want a change. They feel that the Government has let us down on issues from the economy to MP's expenses.

"Many local people are looking for an alternative to Labour, and the best way to get rid of Labour in Derby is to back the Liberal Democrats"

The Liberal Democrats are in second place behind Labour in the new Derby South.
