Lib Dems Norman Baker MP and Cllr Lucy Care are fighting for better rail services

An impressive one in four rail travellers either walk or cycle to the railway station according to a of train users carried out by a leading local Liberal Democrat.

However, the price of rail tickets and a lack of parking spaces were also highlighted as major commuter concerns.

Cllr Lucy Care, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson for Derby North organised the survey of local commuters. Commenting, Lucy Care said, "As well as concerns about ticket prices and a shortage of car and cycle parking spaces, a worrying one in six people said they did not feel safe in and around the railway station they travel from.

"Locally the Lib Dems have plans for big improvements to Derby station which will hopefully address many of these concerns

"Nationally The Liberal Democrats are proposing investing billions of pounds to improve public transport, including more high speed rail lines and buses to help persuade commuters to use trains and buses. These plans received support from many local commuters.

"In contrast, twelve years after the Conservatives privatised the railways two-thirds of respondents still think rail privatisation was a bad thing."

Lucy Care recently met with Lib Dem Shadow Transport Secretary, Norman Baker MP, and has shared the results of the survey with him.

The surveys were returned by residents of Derby who travel from Derby station.
