About Derby Liberal Democrats

A Record of Action

The Liberal Democrat group on Derby City Council has grown steadily, both in size and influence, since Derby became a Unitary Authority in 1997.

Liberal Democrats are excellent ward councillors. For example within Derby they:

  • Produce and deliver regular Focus Newsletters to their constituents, at no cost to the Council Tax payer, to keep local people informed and involved with local decision making

  • Consult local people about specific issues in their areas, often using door-to-door surveys

  • Campaign within the council on specific issues, both of local ward importance and of city-wide significance

  • Take up personal concerns and grievances on behalf of constituents

  • Fought to make the council more open

  • Welcome input from the people of Derby

At the 2005 General Election, the Liberal Democrats had huge swings across Derby.

The Liberal Democrats are now the only challengers to Labour in Derby. In the new Derby North, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman, Councillor Lucy Care needs a swing of less than 5% to beat Labour. In the new Derby South, the Liberal Democrats also start in a strong 2nd place to Labour.
